Trouble Shooting Your Honda Key Not Turning the Ignition
When trouble shooting the potential problem as to why your key isn’t turning in the ignition anymore can vary. But Generally what we see happen is people will experience being able to use the key but it slowly stopped working over time and this is a really good indication that one of the wafers inside of your ignition has become bent or damaged in some way which is causing the cylinder to not work properly.
One thing we have seen happen in the past is the steering wheel lock won’t want to release and so it’s recommended to try and rock the wheel back and fourth and apply some pressure when turning the key. Not enough to break the key and it should be noted to proceed with caution. Some of the newer Honda’s you can reset the plunger in order to free the steering wheel lock. How To Program Your Honda Car Key After Replacing Ignition
If you have reached this step, Good Job!, you’ve successfully got the ignition replaced and turning. However, you might have noticed when using the new key, all though the ignition turns, the immobilizer light or otherwise known as the “Anti-Theft” Is a solid color or blinking at you. If you try to start your Honda with the new key it will try to start but not fully turn on or it might start and instantly die. That is because the new key you are using has a chip inside of it and it needs to be synched with your vehicle in order to bypass the security system and allow proper function.

Tips & Tricks we have seen DIY’ers do in the past that we don’t personally recommend but might help you during an emergency fix
In the past we have seen people recommend the following
Remove all of the wafers in the old ignition lock except for the last one to stop the key from falling out while you are driving down the road and this will more than likely fix your ignition from seizing up. However, isn’t great for security and theft prevention.
If you have replaced your Honda ignition with an after market ignition and have been supplied with a new transponder key, it won’t be synched with your vehicle which means your car isn’t starting. Now, if you have the old key you can remove the chip and simply put it into the supplied key or tape it to the supplied key. Or you can take the chip out and glue it near the steering wheel column so any key could start the car.
